Dad called me on Skype at about 9 to tell me something. I thought he was joking at first, I even came up with reasons as to why he would be (its April Fools,dad doesnt do doctors even if its a vet,ect) but then again...Dad doesnt joke about death, and the tone he said it in was the same one he used when he told me grandma died.
Dave had been acting oddly lethargic,apparently,and his breath was even worse than normal catbreath,so dad took him to the vet.Said vet told him that it was Daves kidneys,and he could put him on some meds that would prolong his life by a few weeks,but dad decided against it to spare Dave the pain.
I didnt want to believe it,refused to,then fooled myself into "accepting it."Still had to call mums place just to see if dad was pulling a really mean joke.
Me: Hey buddy,are you aware of dad playing a really cruel joke on me?
Richie: What are you talking about?
Me: He told me he had Dave put down.
Richie: Its not a joke,my darlin.
It fucking hurts,a piece of my heart is buried under that linden tree in the backyard.But at least hes at peace,and is home.

Saturday was pretty decent.Tasha and Tommy came down (sans Steve,he has mono) in the morning,then we hung out and watched RENT until Jake decided to shovel the driveway.Around 645 or so,we ventured to the Lickbo,then came home and waited.Randy had messaged me earlier about the craptastic weather in Mississauga,so he wasnt able to come down with Andrew.Way lame.Chuck couldnt come up from Clarkson/Toldeo either,so that was also pretty lame.Anju and Ryan braved the weather,kudos to them.Anju said it took her about a half hour to get to the house when it usually only takes 10-15.Ugh,I hate snow so much.
All ate pretty well an entire bag of chicken nuggets,had some drinks,and a bunch of laughs (Im going to miss those jokes most.I love how well all my friends mesh so well with others they barely even know,its sweet)
Anyhoo,we debated on if it was even worth it to go downtown.Anju went home,so it was just 5 of us,and so Ryan offered to drive.So Tasha and I got ready,and we left.Tommy gave me a piggyback from the parking garage to the Loop because it was snowy and I was wearing open-toe shoes.Got there way early,so we grabbed a table and watched people dance/80s cartoons on the wall.Did some dancing,even got Tommy and Jake to nod along to the music.Ran into Joe and Matt,then Jon and D'arcy.Talked to Rob Mallaby,who told Jake and I that it was "shot o'clock"?So yay,I suppose.Danced the Time Warp,heard some MIA and Great Big Sea..All the best music,good times,therefore a pretty rockin send-off.The people I care most about (save Randy) were there,so I couldnt have asked for anything better.Except maybe nicer weather.Seriously,I hate snow.
Sunday I packed,Tasha gave me a Tarot reading which she didnt really need to do- when I was shuffling the cards,one fell out.The way Tasha does her readings is that if a card falls out,it means something.That one said I didnt have any questions,I was happy,and therefore the point of a full-out reading was pretty well moot.Ah,we laughed.Dad took them to the train station so Jake and I could head out while the sun was still up.They left the driveway first because Jake needed to scrape the windows,then we left.Leaving the house,knowing I wouldnt see it/dad/Dave for a year...my chest went hollow again.
Its better today though,its like Im just going to Nova Scotia.Im not really looking 2 weeks from today,so everything is just fine.

I was hungry,and we have no quick eats in the house,so I had to cook something up.Threw some penne on,then made a sauce.And oh my word,this sauce.
Milk,simmered with a pat of butter.Added mozzarella,a bit of feta,and onion&chive cream cheese.Pepper,parsley,minced onion,minced garlic.
Its a beautiful,thinnish but creamy consistency,full of flavour.
Garlic toast on the side.
I amaze myself sometimes.
Ok,not really,Im just a sweet cook.
